About Us
The ANDAA (ArtNeo Drug & Alcohol Awareness) Foundation is a dynamic school awareness program that embarks on a transformative journey across the country, with a primary focus on high schools Our mission is to engage, educate, and inspire the youth on the critical topics of substance abuse and mental health. Through interactive presentations, workshops, and open discussions, we empower students with knowledge, resilience, and the tools necessary to make informed choices.
Africa is witnessing an upsurge in illicit drug trafficking as well as an increase in illicit drug use and the problems associated therewith. Whilst data in the region is sketchy, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) World Drug Report of 2013 estimates that there are 28 million drug users in Africa.
Zimbabwe is also witnessing an increase in problematic drug use among its domestic population along with the related public health issues that accompany certain types of drug use. The substances that are most commonly used in Zimbabwe include alcohol, cannabis, heroin, glue and cough mixtures such as Histalix and Bronclear and methamphetamine among Zimbabwean youth is rising and this increase has coincided with measures aimed at controlling the spread of COVID-19 which we failed to plan for as far as returning residents from South Africa was concerned.
According to research carried out by the Health Professionals Empowerment Trust in Zimbabwe 50% of admissions to mental institutions have been attributed to substance misuse. The research went on to single out youths as the most affected group of individuals in the country. In Zimbabwe over 80% of people admitted to mental institutions due to substance misuse disorders are aged between 16 and 40, and most of these are male.
Based on this backdrop ARTNEO has embarked on drug and substance abuse treatment and recovery services, awareness and prevention campaigns for the community in partnership with the government and relevant ministries
ARTNEO is dedicated to providing substance abuse treatment and recovery services, to certain committed individuals, particularly towards vulnerable populations including awareness and prevention campaigns in schools, churches, workplaces, community halls and the like.
